Biography
Florence Tanui is the founder of JFT Academy. She works as the Principal Research Associate for the REACH Kenya Programme and a PhD Researcher at the Department of Geology, University of Nairobi (PhD. Geology - Hydrogeology). Her PhD research topic focused on groundwater investigation of an arid urban alluvial aquifer. The research was fully funded by the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO), formerly known as the DFID, through the REACH project based at the University of Oxford. She completed her Masters in applied Environmental Geology from Cardiff University in the United Kingdom in 2016 following a prestigious scholarship award by the Tullow Group of Scholarship Scheme (TGSS). Finally, she holds BSc. Geology (first-class honours) from the University of Nairobi.
She has vast experience in geological consulting including but not limited to groundwater investigation, water quality, geotechnical site investigation, contaminated lands assessment, and project planning and design.  She is keen on advancing groundwater knowledge at continental platforms by actively participating in the African Ministers’ Council of Water (AMCOW) - Pan-African Groundwater Programme (APAGroP). On the global platform, she is actively involved in Future Earth and International Water Resource Association activities, amongst others.
She has previously worked as a hydrogeologist for Earth Water Limited and a principal geologist for the African Diatomite Limited. Her interests include climate change, environmental challenges and mitigation, poverty alleviation, water resource management, research into action, theory of change, policy impact, and sustainable development.
